As you may or not know, one of the main "aims" of the Australian 311 Fan Club is to bring 311 back down to tour Australia. This is not an easy task, because as it stands right now 311 aren't the most well-known band in Australia - neither to mainstream media outlets (TV, radio etc) or even most common music fans. This is why in order for our dream to become a reality, we have to do our part in supporting 311 in Australia in all forms, including CD sales, album promotion and basically just general awareness and acknowledgement of the band. There are a number of ways in which we all can help achieve this, and this page is dedicated to just a number of ways that you too can help support and promote 311 in Australia.
Requesting 311
Without a doubt one of the most integral ways of getting a band well known in any area is to get as much coverage on the national and local radio stations and music TV stations as possible. Most of these radio and TV stations have shows that are partially, or totally dedicated to playing requests by the listeners / viewers, thus, one of the most basic ways of getting 311 covered on Australian radio and TV stations without having to raid the stations' HQ's is simply to request them. It's a small contribution, but one request can get the song played on air, and that song could turn someone into a 311 fan - so we urge you to help promote 311 in Australia by requesting them as many times, on as many of these shows as you possibly can. The new album is going to be out in the next few months so when we know what the first single to be it would be suggested to harrass the tv / radio stations about this song in the hopes that they'll pick it up.

Buying 311
Requests are all well and good for raising the awareness and acknowledgement of 311 in Australia, but the real proof that 311 management, and more importantly 311's oz record company would need is in the album sales. Record companies see this as a direct link to the magnitude of a band's fanbase in the given area. Hence, if noone in Australia is buying 311's albums then 311 will never be enthusastic about a tour, nor will their record company, and nor will any promoter, because the lack of album sales means a lack of support, which means (in their eyes) there's no money to be made from a 311 tour here, and in the end that's (unfortunately) what it's all about. The lack of sales could even lead (and HAS lead) to BMG Australia not even releasing 311's albums locally. This happened with Evolver, but we're doing everything we can to ensure this doesn't happen with their 05 release. So if you're a devoted Australian 311 fan and have always been meaning to catch up with buying their albums to complete your collection then NOW is the time. Here are just a few places that stock 311 albums and allow you to purchase online, but don't be afraid to pick the albums up from your local HMV / Sanity / whatever. If there's none in stock, then ask about them

Spreading 311
One of the most under-rated, yet often very powerful tools in the support of 311 in Australia is simply by word of mouth. Always remember to never stop showing your friends / famaily / co-workers snippets of 311's catalogue in the hopes that you'll convert them into a fan. Some people will refuse to listen to what radio or TV tells them to, or even what the internet tells them to, but you'll find many of these people still have respect for the musical reccomendations from friends and family, and often it's the simplest way of finding new 311 fans. Even those who you feel have a completely different taste that yours, 311 appeals to more people than you would imagine, so you never know who could be a unknowing 311 fan at heart. In a similiar fashion, the stream team route is also one worth exploring. Hopefully in the near future of the fan club we hope to get stickers / posters etc put together that you can plaster all over the walls of your city and in your local CD stores. It may be cheap, but we'll take it; you never know who that sort of advertising will reach. Don't be afraid to spend the day writing "311" all over the desks at school, in thick black texta against a local wall or even in public toilets ... it all helps. Even if it doesn't, there's nothing like the thrill of breaking the law and putting yourself at risk for the good of promoting 311 in Australia. Go for gold son, we're all behind you.
